A €2 ‘processing fee’ imposed only on reservations made remotely feels exploitative of customers that choose to plan in advance, and in particular those travelling from further afield.

Either you add it to all your fees, including face-to-face sales, or get rid of it entirely.

It’s unfair to punish precisely the remote (?digital, cash-free?) customer that must/chooses to plan ahead, in favour of the proximate (analogue, cash-paying) and/or spontaneous buyer-on-the-door for two reasons:

  • Firstly, advanced sales are more valuable than on-the-door sales due to the time-value of money, and to the value to business of being able to react to sales data in real time.

  • Secondly, cash transactions incur costs, most notably the cost of counter-staff.

So if you don’t impose a processing fee for in-person transactions, then you shouldn’t for remote transactions.
